Job description
1. Clinical & Patient Care
Animal Restraint: Safely and compassionately restrain dogs and cats during exams, blood draws, vaccinations, and clinical procedures to ensure the safety of the patient, veterinary surgeons, and staff.
Patient Monitoring & Husbandry: Feed, exercise, and clean cages for hospitalized pets or boarders; monitor patient well-being and report any changes in status to the veterinary team.
Surgical & Treatment Prep: Clean, sterilize, and pack surgical instruments; assist in prepping patients for surgery (e.g., shaving, cleaning surgical sites).
Laboratory Assistance: Help collect and prepare basic samples (feces, urine, blood) for routine laboratory testing or external dispatch.
2. Housekeeping & Inventory Management
Clinic Cleanliness: Maintain a sterile and welcoming environment by regularly disinfecting exam rooms, treatment areas, surgery suites, and cages according to clinic protocols.
Stocking & Inventory: Monitor inventory levels in exam rooms and treatment areas; unbox and restock medical supplies, pet food, and pharmacy items.
3. Front Desk & Client Relations
Client Care: Greet clients, answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage check-ins/check-outs with a warm, professional demeanor.
Medical Records: Help maintain accurate electronic or physical patient files, including logging weights, basic history, and updating owner details.
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma, SPM, or equivalent.
Experience: Prior experience working with animals in a professional setting (veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or grooming salon) is highly preferred but willing to train the right candidate with a strong passion for animal care.
Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy for scheduling software and recording client details.
Physical & Soft Skills
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, bend, kneel, and safely lift animals weighing up to 20kg (with assistance for heavier patients).
Communication & Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with both anxious pet owners and busy clinical staff.
Resilience & Adaptability: Ability to stay calm and efficient in a fast-paced, emotionally charged environment, showing a strong stomach for biological fluids and clinical cleanup.
Attention to Detail: Precision in following exact instructions from veterinarians regarding patient care and cleanliness protocols.
