Job description
SYMTRACE Maschinen Sdn Bhd is looking for a hands on engineer to support the installation, commissioning, servicing, troubleshooting, and after sales support of industrial laser equipment.
This position is suitable for someone who enjoys working with industrial machines, electrical and electronic components, sensors, control systems, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing equipment.
Training will be provided specifically for laser equipment and related industrial applications. However, the candidate should already have a good technical foundation, be comfortable working with machines, and be willing to troubleshoot equipment at customer sites.
The engineer must also be able to communicate professionally with customers, explain technical findings clearly, and provide proper updates during installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting work.
As the company grows, the successful candidate will be expected to develop into a technical leadership role, taking responsibility for field service activities, coordinating with customers, and leading technicians during installations, servicing, and repair work.
The role will also include application testing in the SYMTRACE laser laboratory, including sample testing, machine parameter trials, customer demonstrations, process observation, and machine capability evaluation.
Main Responsibilities
1. Support the installation and commissioning of industrial laser equipment at customer sites.
2. Carry out after sales servicing, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment repair.
3. Diagnose machine issues involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, sensor, software, and control system components.
4. Replace and test faulty components such as power supplies, control boards, sensors, cables, motors, switches, relays, connectors, and other machine parts.
5. Read and understand electrical circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and basic machine control logic.
6. Check machine signals, sensor feedback, interlocks, alarms, cooling systems, and safety systems.
7. Perform systematic troubleshooting to identify the root cause of equipment failures rather than only replacing components.
8. Communicate directly with customers regarding equipment conditions, technical findings, corrective actions, and service recommendations.
9. Provide clear progress updates during installation, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
10. Prepare complete service reports after each installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair job.
11. Coordinate with overseas principals and technical support teams when further troubleshooting assistance is required.
12. Progressively lead field service jobs and coordinate technicians during equipment installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair work.
13. Support application testing in the SYMTRACE laser laboratory, including sample trials, laser parameter testing, process observation, and machine capability evaluation.
14. Assist with customer demonstrations, sample preparation, testing reports, and technical presentations.
15. Support internal machine testing, equipment preparation, technical documentation, and customer training.
16. Maintain proper records of equipment service history, replacement parts, technical findings, and outstanding corrective actions.
17. Support continuous improvement of the company’s installation, servicing, troubleshooting, and technical support procedures.
Requirements
Requirements
1. Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation, or another related technical field.
2. Hands on experience with industrial machines, automation equipment, electrical systems, electronic equipment, CNC machines, manufacturing equipment, or process equipment will be an advantage.
3. Able to read electrical circuit diagrams and understand basic wiring, sensors, relays, switches, motors, control signals, and machine logic.
4. Comfortable using testing instruments and tools such as multimeters, hand tools, diagnostic equipment, measuring instruments, and basic electrical troubleshooting tools.
5. Able to approach technical problems systematically and identify possible root causes.
6. Able to communicate technical matters clearly with customers, colleagues, technicians, and overseas principals.
7. Interested in machine application testing, customer sample trials, technical problem solving, and process improvement.
8. Willing to travel within Malaysia and, when required, overseas for training, installation, and service work.
9. Responsible, practical, careful, and willing to learn.
10. Able to work independently after receiving proper training and technical guidance.
11. Willing to take ownership of assigned service cases and follow through until the issue is properly resolved.
12. Able and willing to grow into a technical leadership role and lead technicians during field service work.
13. Experience with laser equipment is not required. Equipment and application training will be provided.
14. Able to communicate in Mandarin will be an advantage, due to the preferred communication language of certain customers and some principal.
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas will be an advantage:
1. Industrial machinery servicing
2. Electrical and electronic troubleshooting
3. Automation and control systems
4. CNC equipment or manufacturing machinery
5. Industrial sensors and safety interlocks
6. Mechanical assembly and component replacement
7. Laser equipment, welding equipment, cutting equipment, or marking systems
8. Customer site installation and commissioning
9. Preparation of service reports and technical documentation
10. Technical communication with overseas equipment manufacturers
Preferred Character
We are looking for someone who is practical, careful, responsible, and committed to developing long term technical expertise.
The right person should not only be able to replace components. He or she should be willing to understand how the machine works, investigate the root cause of problems, communicate confidently with customers, and take responsibility for completing technical assignments properly.
